Janaki - or "Janaki Amma" as she was fondly known by colleagues, fans and loved ones alike. Truly one of the most the influential, unforgettable singers from South India. Hers was a timeless, versatile voice that could scale genres and octaves alike: with her vocal modulations and expressions second to none. She sang many an evergreen tune for Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films. The list of these is endless: "Nagu Endide", "Gaganavu Ello", "Baanallu Neene Bhuviyallu Neene", "Poojisalende HoogaLa Thande", "Naguva Nayana", "Jotheyali Jothe Jotheyali", you name it. A talent that's indeed one in a million. Today, I pay tribute to her with one of her most classic Kannada film songs: the melodious "Nambide Ninna Naada Devatheye", from the film "Sandhya Raaga" (1966). With music by G.K.
