One of the most notable adaptations of this story is the Kannada film "Satya Harishchandra" (1965), directed by Hunasuru Krishnamurthy and starring the much celebrated actor of Sandalwood, Dr. Rajkumar. The movie boasts of masterful acting, beautifully designed sets and costumes, and of course, it's evergreen songs that are still sung by people all over Karnataka to this day (fun fact: this is the first black-and-white South Indian film to be digitally colorized!) Here's a rendition of the film's lively, memorable song: "Kuladalli Keelyavudo", sung to perfection by Ghantasala, with music composed by Pendyala Nageswara Rao and lyrics by Hunasuru Krishnamurthy. A scathing commentary on casteism and religious discrimination, it's sung by Veerabaahu (a manifestation of Yama, the God of Death), guardian of the burial ground in Kashi.
