For a 5-year-old who'd prance around the house singing all kinds of songs, my love and admiration for one of my all-time favorite singers (and musical inspirations/role models), Lata Mangeshkar, began with my father's mixtape of her evergreen tunes. I'd always ask for it to be played ever since - be it on a road trip or just a normal day at home. Many years (and many CD/tape collections and online playlists) later, I still sing those songs (while walking around the house, of course!) wholeheartedly. Then again, who could possibly forget such a timeless, melodious, soul-stirring voice that has inspired countless aspiring musicians all over the globe? Here is my tribute to the Nightingale of India: a cover (recorded in 2023) of an absolute classic, "Raina Beeti Jaaye" from the movie "Amar Prem" (1972), with music by R.D Burman and lyrics by Anand Bakshi. Enjoy!
